MonierLifetile
and Eagle Roofing Concrete Roof Tiles
Concrete Roof Tiles provide the home builder with the best
architectural look, the thickest textures, the longest lasting
affordable roof system, and the best effective value money can buy.
The choices in profile range from the popular West Coast look of
cedar shakes with "Shake", Homestead, Slate, and Split
Shake", to the Southwest character of Spanish Tiles with "Espana",
and the Mediterranean and Hawaiian influence of "Villa", Roma,
and "Classic 100" tiles.
MonierLifetile is owned by Lafarge and Boral, two of the largest
concrete product manufacturers in the world. MonierLifetile is the
largest roof tile manufacturer in North America with many manufacturing
facilities located from the East coast to the West coast. If you're
looking at a concrete tiled roof in Vancouver, on Westwood Plateau, in Parksville, Kelowna, Seattle, Las Vegas, Scottsdale, Boca Ratan, or
Laguna Beach, odds are you're probably looking at a MonierLifetile
product.
Eagle Roofing is well known for their wonderful colour blends,
especially in Capistrano spanish villa style tiles. Owned by Burlingame
Industries this aggressive high quality concrete roof tile manufacturer
is around for the long run with warranties backed up by a large strong
company. Eagle Roofing is MonierLifetile's biggest competitor, and is
certainly a leader in innovative colour blends and styles.
Check out the amazing selection at
Eagle Roofing's website.
In particular see the specialty blends such as Camino Real and
CityScapes. These tiles are available for us from Stockton California,
and usually take around 3 weeks to produce your order. As the tiles come
from California the freight factor adds about $0.75 to $1.25 per square
foot onto Tacoma Produced roof tiles. This is a very small price to
invest in high quality tiles that will accentuate and adorn your project
for decades to come.
Colour through concrete tile roofs, which is now how all leading tile
manufacturers produce concrete roof tile, have proven their
longevity in the similar European climate, and have proven to last in excess
of 70 years. Knowing this, MonierLifetile now offers a
"lifetime" warranty on all their concrete roof tiles. They
used to offer a 50 year warranty, but have increased their coverage to
warrant their tiles performance based on the life of the structure. This
in an un-equaled back up protection showing the confidence that
MonierLifetile and Lafarge have in their products.
Eagle Roofing backs up their roof tiles with a 50 year warranty,
which for all intents and purposes means the same as a lifetime
warranty.
Of course... the roof
tiles will have to be installed with good detailing, flashings,
underlayments, and assembled with good roofing practice or the roof
system will likely have problems inside of 10 years or less(regardless
of brand).
For less cost than a typical cedar shake installation in Southwest
B.C., you can have the pleasure of adding concrete tile to your new
home. A minor structural upgrade, normally in the trusses, is all it
takes to have your home ready for tiles. Usually costing about $4000 for
the average new home change to its framing, this upgrade still has the
budget at less than installed cedar shakes.
And for re-roofing, there is now mid-weight tile available which can
be installed on any home which was designed to support cedar shakes.
Weighing in at about 7 pounds per square foot, Madera is a mid-weight tile
that "may" be used for changing old cedar
shakes while re-roofing to a more up to date and permanent roof system.
This eliminates the need for engineering upgrades on most installations
for re-roofing and remodeling. Get your roofer's opinion as whether your
home can support mid-weight concrete roof tiles, or if you should get an
engineer's opinion. This usability will be dependent on snow load
factors in your region.
Eagle Roofing and MonierLifetile have North America's best selection of colours,
profiles, and classic styles to complement and add value to any design.
One of these two manufacturers best advantages is that they have the least fading and
best colour characteristics in the business.
But aesthetics aside, Eagle Roofing Concrete Roof Tiles and MonierLifetile's
durable tiles resist fire, rain, and the extremes of weather better than
most other roofing materials.
Real clay roof tiles are considered the
ultimate choice for this genre of roofing style. If the real clay tile
is made using grade one clay, and is rated to withstand colder region
climates and weather extremes, then it is about the best roofing
material one can use in this class. It will fade less than concrete, it
will absorb less water and will then be less prone to algae growth, and
surface degradation. In the Southwest BC region, we have observed that
real clay (if it was good grade one variety) looks better after 15 or
twenty years of in field performance than concrete roof tiles.
Real
clay will cost more, both for materials as well as for installation, but
if you are looking for a long term durable solution, a well installed
grade one clay tile roof will be a great investment.
Both concrete as
well as clay tile roofs are not meant to be walked upon much, so please
stay off these roof systems. They are designed to withstand weather
issues, not foot traffic.
