Presidential "TL" ...Super Thick Slate Look:

There is no equal to the Presidential TL. As the thickest shingle in the industry, weighing in at a husky 485 lbs per roofing square (100 sq ft), this product is incomparable. 

It is a tri-laminate, with three layers of heavy duty fiberglass shingles laminated together to form a this new product innovation. It would take a hurricane to blow this monster off, and even then it would probably stay put.

When installed this product is actually thicker than cedar shingles, and just as thick as real slate. Some roofers have commented that when they walk on this roof, they feel like they are walking on a "real roof" for a change, not just a faked alternative such as a 30 year laminated shingle. 

This product provides real texture, real depth, and real slate or shake appearance. It isn't faking it with shadow lines...it really is thick.

The Presidential TL Ultimate should be called "Presidential TL Ultimate Slate" as we have never seen a more realistic alternative to the real thing. This product costs substantially less than the real thing, is less fragile than the real thing, is installed cheaper than the real thing, and weighs far less than the real thing. But it looks better than the real thing in many cases, and it comes with a Limited Lifetime Warranty from Certainteed.

This product automatically comes with a copper granule added to a percentage of its surface granules, which is warranted by Certainteed to prevent algae staining for 15 years. The copper granules are a worthwhile extra feature in our rainforest climate for inhibiting algae growth.

As the shingle is extra thick, and a specific pattern for laying the product needs to be followed, expect your roofer to charge a little bit more for application. But considering that a properly installed Presidential TL Ultimate may be the last roof your home needs, seeing the roofer around for a couple extra days shouldn't pose too much of an inconvenience, and its well worth the investment.

And as this product is expected to last over 50 years, please ensure that you install adequate ventilation in the attic below the roof for both warranty purposes, as well as the health of your home. The flashings should also be heavier than the minimum code products as we need 50 years plus of metal flashing life expectancy. Lets install better than average shingle underlayments to make this luxurious roof survive the distance as a good quality roof system. Remember...the roof is only as good as its weakest link.

There are a few competitors trying to mimic the look and appearance of the Presidential Shakes and the Presidential "TL" Ultimate. Most do not have the unique pattern and style of either the Presidential Shakes or the Presidential "TL" Ultimate. Most of those competitive products have an offset pattern that too often promotes unsightly checkerboard or diagonal zipper patterns.

The original still is the Presidential Shake, and it's design and system has proven itself after 20 years of installed historical results. The thicker Presidential "TL" Ultimate will only last longer as it was created by taking the already well proven Presidential Shake's two layer shingle and added a THIRD layer laminated to its structure to create the thickest and heaviest and most textured shingle in the market today.

The copycats of the competition do not have a triple layer design. They tried to make thicker simulations of the Presidential Shake but did so by adding some additional surface granules to the back of their shingles. This added weight and thickness, but added no appreciable waterproofing characteristics. Instead it makes them harder to cut and more likely to crack.

The Presidential "TL" Ultimate by adding an extra layer of fiberglass and asphalt to the back of the shingle added real waterproofing and storm resistance characteristics to the original Presidential Shakes, thereby making a better product as well as a roofing material with clearly higher definition, enhanced style, and luxurious looks.
