The Presidential Shakes are one of the highest performance shingles in the industry. They weigh approximately 365 lbs per square, are Class A Fire Rated, include an 85 MPH wind warranty, and a 50 year transferable warranty. These shingles are thick, heavy-weight, and multiple layered complete with dual sealant strips to create one of the most durable and storm resistant materials. They weigh about the same as cedar shingles and appear just as thick.

These shingles can be special ordered in as FRS Fungus Resistant c/w Copper Granule format that provides a 15 year algae stain resistance inhibitor. In the West-coast, known for its rainforest-like conditions, this is a useful option.

The Certainteed Presidential Shakes are an ideal shake roof alternative or replacement. They are far more walk-able than concrete or clay tiles, yet are still Class A Fire Rated. They are 1/3 the weight of concrete tile so require no structural reinforcing when preparing the roof system. They provide the beauty of real wood or slate at far less cost and twice the the life expectancy of today's cedar shakes.

For final finishing details, a super thick shingle such as the Presidential Shakes should include on the peaks, hips, and ridges no less decorative detailing when selecting the ridge capping.

We recommend that a minimum of Pro-Design 10" or Ridgeglass 10" Shake Look Ridge caps should be used on these thick shingles. Plain old 3-tab capping would detract from the look and appeal of this roof and and usually ruin the effect these shingles were meant to deliver.

The ultimate capping solution is to use the above mentioned shake look ridge caps installed directly over Ridge Vent units such as Cor-A-Vent Rigid Vent to create a truly realistic shake or slate look appeal and texture. Remember...the first thing you often notice on a wood shake roof is the jagged rustic appearance of the taper-sawn ridge caps. We can replicate this look, while providing good venting for the roof on the ridges, using this Cor-A-Vent / Pro-Design capping assembly.
