Symphony Slate are
natural looking slates which are made from polymers and rubber. These
are notably eco-friendly, lightweight, easy to install, and they deliver an
authentic look. They are manufactured by the largest roofing and siding
manufacturer in North America ... Certainteed. The traditional slate look which is uniform is
recreated with Symphony Slates. Often found in historic architecture,
Parisian and French classic styles, eastern Canada, and other old world
European buildings, these Symphony Slates offer wonderful and authentic
architectural appeal for all styles of homes.
The first advantage of using these composite slates is that they are
lightweight and very easy to install. Ideal for re-roofing with their
lightweight design, they weigh in at less than 4 lbs per square foot. This
weight is approximately the same weight as heavy-weight asphalt shingles
so there is never a concern for using Symphony Slate on any re-roofing
project within the approved slopes or pitch of roof.
Real slate would rarely be an option for reroofing, as real slate is
super-heavy and most home structures are not designed to support real
slate systems (with the exception of our Tru-Slate system). On new construction, real slate can be used on new homes
as the framing can be significantly beefed up. But real slate is one of
the most expensive materials to get installed, and those real slate
roofs usually have a significant breakage issue. Symphony Slate roofs are
easy to install, are easy to walk on after being installed, and overall
are installed at a very effective labour cost. So for real cost
savings, without sacrificing too much of the authentic look of real
slate, Symphony Slate is a winner for cost efficiency compared to the
great look that is created.
Symphony Slates are eco-friendly. They are made from recycled
materials, TPE thermoplastic polymers, together with synthetic and
natural elastomer rubbers, mineral reinforced. In the future this
material is 100% recyclable, making Symphony Slate one of the most
environmentally friendly and "green" roofing materials available today.
Polymer plastic based roofing materials have been installed on roofs
for over 20 years now in Canada, which means these types of roofing
materials are weathering the tests of time. Our severe Canadian climate
is a great proving ground for roofing materials. So Symphony Slate has
taken this real history, and made sure these proven ingredients that are
installed successfully already are the primary materials that they use
in the production of their quality slates.
