Lamarite Shake
Tamko has created a synthetic composite roofing
line they call Lamarite. Originally introduced as a single size Lamarite
Slate, Tamko now offers the improved design of their multi-width Slates
and have also just launched their brand new Lamarite Shake.
Unfortunately, Tamko will NOT warrant their
products for installations in Canada. We are not sure if they are not
confident about their product's performance in northern US and Canadian
climates, or if they just cannot get the building code officials to
approve their products in Canada. Never the less while this situation
continues our company will not market or sell the Lamarite shake or
slate in Canada.
Lamarite Shake is a solid colour-through
composite roofing that accurately simulates the thickness of thinner cedar
shingles and the surface texture of a straight-split shake. They are
just over 1/4"
thick and come in three widths to create a natural look. Tamko currently
offers Lamarite Shake in "Weathered Wood" and "New Cedar" colours.
We believe the Weathered Wood is an excellent
colour for replacing old wood shake roofs. For those of you in the Pacific Northwest or other regions you
will still need extra wood to prepare the roof deck for a Lamarite
installation. You should also check if Tamko Roofing will warrant or
approve of the use of this product in the Pacific Northwest, as if Tamko
has any concerns for Lamarite being installed in Canada then one surely
must do due diligence of this product in Washington State's severe
weather region.
Lamarite Shake emulates the organic beauty of
real wood with an authentic grain pattern designed to enhance the curb
appeal of your home. They are not extremely thick but the surface
texture is good. They can be installed with either a uniform or
offset exposure to add incredible depth and dimension.
Made from innovative materials that are robust,
fire resistant, and rich looking, Lamarite Shakes are Class A Fire Rated,
Class 4 Impact Resistant, and are offered with a 50 year limited
warranty (NOT WARRANTED IN CANADA)
These shakes will exceed the look of most
asphalt shingles (save perhaps the Certainteed Landmark TL or
Presidential TL), and will give you the look you want with peace of mind
and long term performance.
Lamarite Slate:
Lamarite Slate, which is now available in a
great looking 3 size format, is another durable looking composite material that
is lighter in weight than real slate, but is more affordable yet retains
all of slate's natural beauty.
If you are in the USA, or an area that Tamko
selectively chooses to honour their warranties, then one can install their slate
in two ways ...with uniform size and offset pattern, or for an
improved look one can install it with three widths and staggered exposures.
The product is available as single colour or one can blend any number of
colours from various bundles to create a unique personal blend.
On a recent journey to Chicago to view real
authentic slate roofs, we discovered that the best looking slate roofs, and the
most numerous, were multi-coloured, multi-sized, and rich with texture.
We could hardly find a single house adorned with a uniform look slate roof,
among the hundreds and hundreds of real slate roofs we viewed. We
preferred the richer looking textures and multi-coloured slate roofs,
and we found the uniform slates (especially the thinner ones) did not
add much luxurious qualities to the homes and buildings they adorned.
We openly admit the the look of DaVinci Slate
is far closer to the look of real slate because of the thicker texture,
random widths, and more stone like finish, and we recommend that you
check out their website at
www.davinciroofscapes.com or view our
webpage.
An even further advantage of DaVinci is that
not only are they approved and warranted in a greater region, but
DaVinci has the unique colour blends pre-packaged and ready (looks more
like real blended slate) in each bundle, they have more size widths, and
they have greater surface and edge texture to better mimic the real
materials. Finally DaVinci has the tapered slates available that make
installing roofing on turrets a snap comparatively, which no other
manufacturer currently has.
But if you choose to use a Tamko product then
Lamarite with multiple widths appears to offer you a solution to create
architectural style.
Again, because of Tamko's recent refusal to
provide warranty protection in Canada for Lamarite, it is our opinion
that you should do further due diligence to educate yourself about this
product, before selecting Lamarite for your roofing. Especially if you
are above the California, Missouri, Kansas, Georgia borders as it may be
possible that Tamko may have concerns about performance of their
products in moisture, freeze-thaw, or severe weather regions, and hence
has limited its approved installation region.
