True Comfort Blowing Machine ... we have it available as an inexpensive rental unit, plus we sell them to contractors wishing to involve themselves in this energy saving and comfort providing business. The two piece design of Certainteed's True Comfort Blowing Machine makes it easily transportable in a SUV or pick-up truck (or trailer). It is simple to use, and comes with 100 feet of hose, plus it easily plugs into a household 115 volt typical circuit. Two people can easily complete an attic insulation blowing project in 2 to 4 hours (around 5 minutes per bag) for a typical sized 1000 square foot attic area. It only takes around 16 bags to complete a 1000 square foot attic space to yield an r30 upgrade above existing insulation. These True Comfort bags currently sell for $38.99 per unit, so for only $624 worth of insulation, and a morning or afternoon's simple easy task, you can be saving energy and energy bills quickly. For those that prefer to have a contractor provide the completed insulation project ... an R30 upgrade to existing insulation will cost around $1.95 to $2.40 supplied, blown, and installed. Of course some people in the northern climates above Oregon request r50 upgrades, so one can add as much insulation as you like ... you simply have to request a deeper thicker insulation application, and pay for additional bags of comfort providing True Comfort insulation. Please observe the following short video from Certainteed, and observe the simple installation of True Comfort Blown-In Attic Insulation. http://www.certainteed.com/products/insulation/fiber-glass-insulation/blowing-insulation/317372 Choose the "installation" tab, and see the video link just to your lower right side. A simple guideline to follow on R-Value: If you have approximately 6" of insulation in your attic now, you are around R-15 currently. This assumes the existing insulation still has any effective R-Value remaining (either because it has gotten wet or damp, or has been compacted). But you do not currently have any more than that R-Value with this existing depth. In this case you would need to add 17" additional blown-in True Comfort insulation to bring your self up to R-60. The current standards for the Northern half of USA, and all of Canada, is that you should have R60 to meet the new recommended energy efficiency targets. The building code sued to be R30 way back, it went up to R40, and recently R50 was the ideal, but now R-60 is considered more ideal. If you only want to meet the minimum standards, we suggest R50 as a minimum goal to upgrade your attic. You will save lots of energy and that transfers into enormous savings from lower heating and cooling bills ...and all it takes is a few more bags while you are at it. Coverage of Certainteed True Comfort: The actual bags list the coverage as ... each bag will cover up to 64.5 square feet maximum, for an R-30 depth top-up of attic insulation. Our chart: Add: Additional "R20" to 1000 sq ft of attic ... will normally take 10.5 bags Add: Additional "R30" to 1000 sq ft of attic ... will normally take 15.5 bags Add: Additional "R40" to 1000 sq ft of attic ... will normally take 21.0 bags Add: Additional "R50" to 1000 sq ft of attic ... will normally take 26.0 bags Use the above chart as a guideline to determine how many bags you will require if you blow the insulation in to the correct depth. The estimated time for blowing using Certainteed's True Comfort machine is 5 minutes per bag, once you are set up ready to go. Quick and easy !
