Alfresco Shelters
Our unique Alfresco shelters are constructed to last a long long time. We build them in a timber frame style with large beefy posts to create a fantastic focal point and outdoor living room for your backyard, your patio, your lakeside home, or anywhere on your property. These are architectural centerpieces for your home, and they will add real value to your property, for now and for future resale.
In order to experience a longer patio season we all require shelter from the rain and the unpleasant weather. We need to create outdoor living rooms and sunrooms to provide weather protection for ourselves as well as the furniture, decor, BBQs, and appliances we hope to enjoy outdoors with our family and our guests.
We are not recommending the available fabric covered light duty steel frames that some hardware stores are now offering. Those don't last long, and in two or three years the fabric will be filthy, worn out, and requiring replacement. They also do not stand up to storms very well requiring you to take them down more often than is desirable. One real problem with those "tents" is they are too small to act as a living-room space for enough stuff, you cannot use fire-pits or most heaters under fabric tents at any time, and they certainly add no value to your home. In fact they are usually considered an unsightly object by most realtors looking at them.
The solution is to build outdoor living rooms with enough size and space to properly fit yourselves and your appliances and decor within. Not everyone is a master carpenter, or super skilled as handymen, and finding a good contractor and trades, and getting things custom built can be challenging plus expensive.
So rather than re-invent the room in everyone's backyard, we have designed Gazebos as Cabana Shelter kits that are ready to assemble by handy homeowners, or your own tradesman, or we can come and install it for you.
Shown below is a just completed assembly of our Alfresco Gazebo standard size kit. It measures 130" x 152" from post outside to post outside, and our standard Gazebo has one hip roof on one side, and a gable edge on the opposite. The two different roof details on each side provide visual architectural interest, an opportunity to allow more sun or shade on one side or the other, as well as capture a view through the open gable end. The gable on one end also allows the gazebo to be placed close, adjacent, or butting right against an existing home if desired.
This gazebo kit creates an overall top view size of 165" x 188", which equates to an approximately 13.75ft x 15.75ft Gazebo structure, or a 216 square foot outdoor great room.
Alfresco Gazebos also are built as gable roofs both sides for a simpler roof, and the cost of this structure is a little less than than the hip/gable standard package.
The 13.75ft x 15.75 ft provides ample room for entertaining below the roof, it provides the size one needs for a decent furnishing or love seat layout, plus it is of sufficient size to leave room for a fire feature chat table or outdoor fireplace.
Our kits consist of of pre-cut timber, lumber, roof decking, and posts ready to assemble. Most of the cutting is done for you, including the headers, beams, roof rafters and hips and ridges.
The lumber we use is select Real Wood Pacific Trim s4s finished all four sides. Typically these fine timbers are used for fascias and trims on home construction, but we have constructed the entire kits out of these select premium lumber products. All this lumber arrives to us pre-primed from Woodtone, already partially finished with its first primers coats. This greyish white colour already provides protection for your architectural pavilion, and you can apply the final colors by painting it in a color tone and finish of your choice.
Our standard sized rectangular gazebo pavilions have big 8x8 engineered Real Posts, cross beams of 6x6 Real Posts, bearing beams of triple 2x8 S4S Real Wood Pacific Trim plus top plate, and the rafters are built out of skookum 6x6 Real Posts, complete with angle cutting completed for you, ready for fascias. The roof deck itself is built out of 2x6 T&G Real Wood lumber. We ship you 12 foot and 16 foot lengths to cut to fit to the completed and installed rafters.
Our standard kits comes with 8 foot high 8x8 Real Posts, and we also have 10 foot available as well. On site you cut these down to adapt to the levelness of your own site. A quick check with a string level or even a laser level set up, will guide you to the correct height adjustment of each of the 4 posts. Or better yet, you have a level surface or level post footings ready for the posts to be mounted upon with no cutting of the posts required. You mount our posts to your patio or column footings using post saddles. We can supply them or you supply them. The cost of our kits starts at the bottom of the post and up from there, with the footings, post saddles, or column supports being a unique variable to each jobsite. One of our contractors can assist you with getting those prepared as well, as an extra service.
Once the posts are fastened and supported properly, the rest of the assembly is pretty straight forward. At the top of the posts specialty lumber hangers are installed creating our level and connected surface to mount our Real Posts plus bearing lumber to, all on top of our big beefy 8x8 Real Posts. From there we have a simple to install roof framing system. You can choose between our typical dutch-gable design, a traditional double gable roof, or our specialty half cottage hip, half gable roof. Our rafters are pre-notched ready to apply onto he bearing beams previously installed, and we have the hip rafters also ready cut for you to install. You follow this up by installing the 2x6 T&G Roof Lumber (pre-finished with primer), and you will be ready to install your chosen roofing materials.
The roofing materials are extra to the "kit", but as we have more roofing choices than any other supplier in this region, we are sure we have the right architectural style and texture that best complements your home and property. It is a shame to install thinner asphalt shingles on this backyard centerpiece, so we will want to show you all the boutique styled and interesting character materials one can use. We have the shingles in stock, but there are many more amazing choices to select from that will better suit a gazebo for style, panache, character, and real estate improvement. These buildings are not very big, so you will be able to afford a great looking roofing material as the roof surface to cover is not very large. Have fun with this step, and give your pavilion some designer punch ! This is where we recommend great looking roofing materials such as DaVinci Shakes DaVinci Slates, Clay Tiles, Lightweight Concrete Monterey Shakes, Real Slate, Metal Roofing shingles or standing seam panels, even copper and real zinc roofing. At the minimum, we love to recommend our thicker Presidential TL Ultimate super thick shingles for designer flair, or Grand Manor or Carriage House for an old world look.
The roofs can be specialty acrylic (glass like) panels with Powder Coated Aluminum mullions to mute the sun yet provide ample daylight. Even more popular are our solid wood deck roofs with various roofing materials as described above. But for additional daylight we can add one or two opening skylights. These Velux Skylights are leak free, and add venting capabilities to exhaust heat building up in the roof space from Fire Pits or Out Door Fireplaces, as well as smoke and fumes from Barbecues.
We can also provide complete aluminum and glass structures, however we caution against the "look" of mobile home lean-to style structures, and the cheapening effect they can have on your home's appeal.
We have roofing installers waiting to help you with the roofing materials installation as well. In fact we can connect you with backyard hardscaping installers to put in a new patio, to install any stonework or cultured stone, Barbecue Island creators and finishers, of course the pavilion installation itself. From there we have interior / exterior designers ready to help you out with the overall design scheme. This includes putting together final color schemes, furnishings, and decor to complete your backyard paradise. We can create outdoor curtain and awning additions to our Alfresco Pavilions that can set the mood, the privacy, or the general ambience of your new living room, outdoors.

directly to rafters (maximum 20" gaps between rafters for this method). The
underside of this unique synthetic grass roofing will show and create a perfect
replication of real palapa and tiki hut roofs you find in the tropics. The
underside is finished at the same time as the top of the roof. We have another
version for application directly onto solid deck roofs too.
Our previous designs of pavilions were sturdy, but we have now added engineered 8x8 Real Posts for our structural base supports, and big 6x6 Real Posts for rafters. The old design looked good, but to accomplish a real timber frame look, we chose to go with beefier framing members.
The new design allows for feeding of wiring internally inside these unique hollow posts and rafters. Why ? We want to provide the best looking structure we can, at a reasonable installed cost, for long term performance, unique light fixture possibilities, and outstanding architectural appeal.

Imagine dining alfresco in this fabulous outdoor great room. This kit is a 16x16 foot pergola kit.
Tuscany comes with 4 Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete columns (GFRC) and big fiberglass beams. It has a realistic finish that withstands the sun and other outdoor elements. It is weatherproof and low maintenance.
For our region we can improve upon this kit by adding some acrylic clear or opaque panels to shed the rain as well.
The Tuscan columns can be purchased separately for your own design scheme, additional landscaping features, etc.

The Montana
This pergola is about the most unique one can imagine. Its large timber log style is possible for a do it yourself to put together as a kit, as OGR has created lighter weight fiberglass simulations of the real logs. It looks great ! We are working on engineering questions to see if we can install a solid roof over this kit, and we should know the answer to this shortly. But in the meantime, we have an optional Sunbrella fabric solution to protect and shade your guests, and shed rain in those cases.
All these Pergolas are architectural center pieces for your Outdoor space, whether it is on the roof deck of a high rise as shown here, or in your backyard, they add real value to your property. They also make for great entertainment space and living space.

It simply screws right onto the aluminum frame structure, and very soon you will have a replica of a real Bora Bora tiki hut. Our Palmex simulated grass thatch roofing is warranted for 20 years, unlike the real grass that has a very short life, and the whole system is designed to perform in high wind conditions, up to 140 MPH.
