Slate Look and Shake Look Rubber, Plastic Roofing, and Polymer Roofing

As a general rule individual shakes and slates look far better than wider "panels" of slates or shakes. If a single shake or slate fades more than its neighboring slates the roof still looks "natural", just like the real materials. But we have seen "panels" of rubber shake and rubber slates fade after two or three years on the roof, resulting in the look and appearance of those roofs becoming less appealing with the image of "chicklet groups" showing up all over the roof. This is because the "panels" have stamped images of up to 3 slates or from 2 shakes up to 6 or 7 shakes embossed on them (currently 18" to 36" wide depending on the manufacturer), and if one panel fades different than those near it, it stands out as groups of shakes or slates looking different and it looks unpleasant. Therefore we are proponents of the "individual" separately installed synthetic shakes and slates, especially if the material is rubber based, and we do not recommend the 3ft wide panel types, as the smaller individual shakes and slates create a long term, better looking, and attractive roof system, in our opinion*.  Please read our Legal Disclaimer .

General Info on Synthetic Roofing

Click the above link to review polymer and rubber roofing as a general industry. See lots of photos on slates and shakes that are made from rubber, plastic, polymer, and other composite materials.

Next, click on the following buttons for specific manufacturer's products and styles.

DaVinci Shake

Check this page out to view the all new DaVinci Shake, the newest profile with Davinci.  It is a very unique synthetic shake product with a realistic handsplit shake look.

Its features include thickness, multiple widths, realistic colours, Patented two-layer protection, unsurpassed durability, and its engineered to last a lifetime.

A new profile from DaVinci is just being introduced into Western Canada, and it is called Valore Shake ... it will be our least expensive synthetic roofing material. All the pieces are 9" wide making installation a piece of cake... fast and easy. Call one of our offices for more info.

DaVinci Slate

Davinci Slate is the most realistic looking synthetic slate on the market, and can look even better than some thinner or uniform versions of real authentic hand quarried slate.

Its features include wide variety of widths, natural look finish and textures, great colour blends, as well as being very lightweight and easy to install.

New product now available form DaVinci is BellaForte, and is very easy to install, a more uniform look than their regular slates, but still outstanding style. This new profile is less expensive than the original DaVinci Slates, and is currently our least expensive solution for synthetic slates. Call our offices for more information.

Symphony Slate

Symphony Slate is the most traditional looking, accurately simulating authentic slates. With the look of Parisian and French Country architecture, these uniform width slates deliver an old world appeal like no other.

Ideal for reroofing or new construction, these lightweight slates are environmentally friendly, eco-friendly, "green roofing", and very easy to install.

These slates are 100% recyclable in the future, and are currently manufactured using recycled plastics as well as TPE thermoplastic polymers together with synthetic and natural elastomer rubbers, mineral reinforced.

These slates create superior design and curb appeal for any home or building.

Distinctions Composites

Distinctions is a newer offering for Western Canada and it is currently our thickest synthetic slate. It is Eco-friendly utilizing 52% recycled content, and is 100% recycleable.

Distinctions Composite Slate creates a high end appearance with outstanding curb appeal, and long tern performance. It is lightweight, easy to install, and has none of the weight concerns and installation hassles and issues of real slate.

At 2.4 pounds per square foot, this is our lightest weight roofing material other than metal, and it is ideal for re-roofing.

This authentic looking roofing material looks like real thick slate, but with its light weight it is ideal for re-roofing appplications.

Tested for new construction meeting ICC-ES approval in report ESR-1055. CCMC Canadian approval evaluation is currently in process.

It also comes in a Mediterranean tile look. New profiles will also be released in 2009 as well.

Distinctions Composite Slates and Tiles

Lamarite Synthetic Shakes

Manufactured by Tamko Roofing Products, these shakes do a decent job of looking like real cedar shingles. At just over 1/4" thick these synthetic shakes are no where near as thick as the DaVinci Shake (5/8").

Both Lamarite Shake and Lamarite Slate are not warranted and not approved for Canada or Alaska, so we advise caution on this product at this time, especially in regions which experience similar weather to Canada such as Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, New England, etc.

Lamarite Synthetic Slates

Lamarite Slates are now available in the original 12" width version as well as a new version which includes 5", 7", and 12" widths to create a less patterned look.

Both Lamarite Shake and Lamarite Slate are not warranted or approved for Canada or Alaska, so we advise caution on this product at this time, especially in regions which experience similar weather to Canada such as Washington, Oregon, Montana, Colorado, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota, New England, etc.

Lamarite Shake and Slate are made from a new composite material that rates as Class A Fire Rated, Class 4 Impact Resistance, and is offered with a 50 year Limited Warranty in areas that Tamko selectively chooses, and at this time this excludes all of Canada.
