Sheet Metal Flashings are
required on virtually all roof systems and siding / stucco systems.
Primarily they serve as a water-flow diverter and water-shedding device
wherever there occurs penetrations, skylights and chimneys, changes in
roof slope or direction, dormers, sidewall or headwall junctions on
roofs, in valleys, where windows or doorways jut out into the siding or
cladding, or where any siding or roofing material changes in material or
direction. There are many standard sized flashings readily available.
Especially for roofing where many items are now standardized such as "W"
valleys, tile valleys, shake valleys, back-pans, front-pans, step
flashings, drip edge, roof edge, rake edge, gable trim, ridge caps,
gutter cap flashings, gravel stop, etc. Also window flashings, head and
sill flashings, and brick flashing has many standard sizes.
But most building are not all built the same and will require custom
sized or custom angled sheet metal flashings to properly and neatly
complete the task of keeping water out of buildings and on top of the
weatherproofing surface materials.
All Weather Products is fully equipped to meet most of your standard
and custom sized flashing requirements. We utilize computerized CNC
folding, bending, and shearing equipment to accurately and quickly
produce your metal flashing needs. Fax us a drawing, come into our
showroom, or E-Mail us your requirements. We can even run small metal
orders bent while you wait.
We stock our sheet metal in standard pre-painted finishes in a
variety of gauges. We have inexpensive 31 gauge, 30 gauge, and 29 gauge
on the light side, ranging to mid-thickness gauges such as 28 gauge and
26 gauge. We also stock 24 gauge in limited colours and can produce most
parts down to 18 gauge. We also offer stainless steel, copper,
galvanized steel, and aluminum (special order).
Standard colours are Coffee Brown, Dark Brown (we call this
CharcoalDarkBrown...Qc229), Makin White ( an attractive bright white).
Specialty colours are Charcoal Grey, Briarwood Tan, Black, Heron Blue,
Melchers Green, and Stone Grey. Many other colours can be chosen from
the metal roofing roll-formers catalogue colours as well. Usually the
specialty colours are 26 gauge or heavier.
For those curved buildings, walls, and dormers we are equipped to
produce sheet metal flashings in a radius two or three piece flashing.
The joinery is Pittsburgh-Seamed and these flashings are normally
considered "counterflashings", with the primary waterproofing membrane
installed prior to the installation of the curved flashing. These are
produced in minimum 28 gauge steel or heavier. Please bring in a pattern
drawn off the actual curved section for our shop to reproduce the curve
accurately.
What's the importance of good quality flashing work and materials?
Ask the unfortunate "Leaky Condo" owners how they wish their builder
had provided good flashings on their buildings. Poor or non existent
flashing detailing on important sidewall and roof penetrations and
junctions created an awful lot of the problems associated to the leaky
buildings. That and poor underlayments, poor ventilation, and trapped
moisture were the root causes of rot, mildew, and decay.
Now engineers are employed where possible to design building envelope
water-shedding, vapour barriers, and water diversion through good
flashing work and materials. But just like before...buyer beware...and
be aware if good flashing detailing is being performed on your new
building. The city inspectors are still shirking their responsibility as
a general rule. That or they require a "private" inspection by a
certified building envelope engineer.
In all cases good quality metal flashings that fit tightly and
snuggly together, with good caulking and water diversion bends as
required will work hard at holding out our stormy West-coast weather
from your building's primary waterproofing and water-shedding membranes.
That's why All Weather Products employs quality equipment and quality
personnel to service your sheet metal fabricating requirements. |
